Plan Your Joy

I don’t know about you…

But adulting has really not been my vibe.

Sitting in an office for 8 hrs a day all week…. No thanks.

And yet, here I am.

Living the life I loath.

Staring at a computer 8 hrs a day.

Working on my second job during my lunch break.

Coming home. Staring at it more as I continue to work on one of my several screen-based side hustles, side jobs, or random gigs.

All in all, I’m typically staring at a screen for upwards of 10 hours a day.

So when I say my week feels pretty dull and lifeless…I think you can see why….

“Rynika, that’s such a nice sob story…but what’s the point?”

The point my friend, is the solution;)

I constantly make it my mission to take the mundane, and make it extraordinary!

One of the methods I use to accomplish this? I call it:

Plan Your Joy

When the weekdays all blur together with bore, I make sure (for my own sanity) to plan one fun thing to look forward to during the week.

No, not on the weekend. During the WEEKDAYS.

You can still plan fun things on the weekend; Please, be my guest! Live your life!

Just don’t live solely for the weekends.

I chose an evening where I can make some free time to do something that causes the core of my being to absolutely come alive. Something that I 100% know will bring me joy.

I put that item in my calendaer, and I commit to it. I make it a priority.

And let me tell you, Monday’s are so much easier when you know you have fun plans Tuesday night.

Wednesdays feel way more like a Friday when you go out to the movies after work (at reasonable time of course).

You are your own individual, so I have no idea what lights you up inside. But I challenge you. Make a list of 5 things that bring you joy. Go on. Stop reading and do it now. Pull out your phone (I know you have it in your hands right now as you’re reading this hehe) or switch tabs on your computer and make a new note of 5 things that make you feel alive.

Here are mine:

  1. Dancing - line dancing, salsa dancing, ballroom dancing, you name it!

  2. A cheap glass of wine & a good friend

  3. Rollerskating (I know I know I’m old school)

  4. Watching a movie with a buddy (AMC $5 Tuesdays ya’ll!)

  5. Learning something new - maybe a new workout class, a painting class, a pottery class, a cooking class! Check Groupon and see what type of activities are offered in your area for a discount!

Mine are very activity based, as I am someone who generally enjoys leaving the house when I plan my joy. But you totally can reserve your joy for a night in reading with candles lit and your cat cuddling in your lap! No? Just me? Okay hahaha…

Maybe head to the driving range and hit a few golf balls to work off the stress. Top golf is a great one! Axe throwing is another fun option. Go bowling and pretend the pins are your tricky co-workers or stubborn clients!

Jk lol don’t pretend that. Let’s just pray for them instead lol

But you catch my drift. For at LEAST 1 hour a week (I suggest longer but you do you boo) plan something during the week that you can spend the week looking forward to.

I’ve had amazing friend dates getting drinks at Islands followed by a night at the movies! Or a local bar that offers $5 salsa lessons for 2 hours on Tuesday nights! There’s line dancing on Wednesdays. Taking a walk, bike ride, or skate down the beach or a park with a friend at sunset. Happy hour $5 wine at a fancy local restaurant. Lighting a candle and burying myself in a book….I’m reliving so many good memories right now that I DIDN”T make on the weekend!

And let me just tell you…WOW this really helps my mundane work week be filled with so much more joy!

I specifically color code my calendar, and make the fun things a BRIGHT blue so that they are sure to stand out, and I can notice them straight away and subconsciously know “Hey, that block of blue is something I’m looking forward to!”

So there you have it. My personal life hack to make the average days a little more exciting!

I want to hear from you! DM me on Instagram and let me know what kind of activities made your top 5. I’m ALWAYS looking for new ideas of what to do on my weeknights!

Keep elevating your everyday life!

Until next week my friends!

Xoxo
